Everyone should be prepared for a quick change
– Carbon Brief
According to a report by Carbon Brief, the growth of solar and wind energy will continue in 2023. At the same time we can expect a resurgence in hydro and nuclear power generation, especially since EDF's statement that most of their nuclear plants in France will come back online in 2023.
As a consequence, power generated with fossil fuels may drop by as much as 20% in 2023, which is double the previous record from 2020. A lot less power will be generated from coal, but natural gas gets the biggest blow because it's expected to be more expensive than coal until 2025 at least.
The energy crisis has had a profound effect on Europe's energy transition: not only coal, but also natural gas will be phased out at an accelerated pace. Europe is heading for a new, greener economy -and this will be noticeable as early as 2023. Things are changing rapidly, and everyone should best be prepared.
